Random Thoughts 6/30/09

It appears that the Reds were in it until the end regarding Mark DeRosa. Walt Jocketty said the Reds are “definitely” still looking for a bat. Call me naive, but I have faith that Jocketty will make the right decisions as we get deeper into the summer. I also think Bob Castellini trusts him and may even open up the checkbook a little more if Jocketty can be persuasive enough.

Congratulations to Sherri J. Friedman of Cincinnati, who will represent the Reds in Major League Baseball’s “All-Stars Among Us” campaign. She is the founder of an organization that distributes unused tickets to children.

Manny Ramirez has finished his minor league rehabilitation assignment. He is set to return to the Dodgers’ lineup on Friday after serving a 50-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy.

Another cheater, Phillies’ pitcher J.C. Romero, could possibly face a battery charge after an altercation with a fan last Thursday during a game against the Rays.

In other news, a legitimate star with solid character values and integrity hosted the annual dinner for his foundation. Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation and Jeter’s Leaders program is designed to promote healthy lifestyles, academic achievement and social change activism among high school students.

Last year’s National League Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum, tossed a two-hit shutout against the Cardinals last night. Barring a tremendous meltdown in his next couple starts, he could very well find himself back on the Busch Stadium mound in two weeks as the National League starting pitcher in the All-Star Game.

How did I miss this? A 34-year old man fell from the Busch Stadium upper deck on Saturday. Luckily, he only appeared to be a little banged up.

If your team is playing the Nationals and you decide to make the trip to Washington, your best bet is to have pizza delivered and shack up at Red Roof. When your team is as bad as the Nationals, fans have to find other ways to amuse themselves.

Twitter is a fantastic communication tool that has revolutionized the way all news is reported. Athletes and sports bloggers have put it to good use. Please don’t ruin it simply because you are starving for attention.

Hey. I like what your writing. I too have faith in Walt Jocketty that he will get a bat to keep this team in the race as the season goes on. I talked about adding a bat and trade rumors in my most recent post in my blog And This One Belongs To The Reds. GO REDS

The Reds now have a good G.M. in Walt Jocketty and I assume that he will bring in a couple of bargain deals for the Reds as he did for the Cardinals. I’m surely glad the Cardinals were able to land Mark DeRosa, but I knew that basically all of the NL Central teams were in the mix for trading for him. How interesting is that?
